Green Education Foundation Website

The GEF curriculum section of this website is loaded with fun, innovative and hands-on environmental lessons and activities.

GEF’s standards-based lessons can be sorted by grade, subject and GEF eco-challenge: Green Thumb ChallengeNational Green Week or Green Energy Challenge. Each lesson provides suggested grade levels, subjects addressed, learning standards, lesson objectives, estimated lesson times and necessary materials.

U.S. Department of Ed. Green Ribbon Program

The U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools will recognize schools that save energy, reduce costs, and feature environmentally sustainable learning spaces, as well as protect health, foster wellness, and impact effective environmental education. The Green Ribbon award will acknowledge high levels of achievement under three areas: 1) environmental impact and energy efficiency; 2) healthy environment; and 3) environmental literacy.

Whole Kids Foundation

Would you like the chance at a $2,000 to support your school garden project. Do you have the capacity to undertake a project involving school gardens. GreenWorks Grants

Project Learning Tree is providing GreenWorks! grants up to $1,000 to schools and youth organizations for environmental service-learning projects. GreenWorks! is PLT’s service-learning program that encourages students to take action to improve the environment based on what they learn in the classroom. It blends community service with academic curriculum to link classroom learning to the real world. Students “learn by doing” through community action projects they design and implement to improve an aspect of their school or neighborhood’s environment. Since 1992, PLT has helped fund nearly 1,000 GreenWorks! projects across the country.

Earth Science Week Contests Celebrating Our Ever-Changing Earth

As part of Earth Science Week Oct 9-15 The American Geological Institute(AGI) is sponsoring three national contests.

-Photography Contest: You are invited to submit photos that capture evidence of long or short-term changes taking place around our planet or in your neighborhood.

-Visual Arts Contest: K-5 students are invited to submit a 2-D piece of art to illustrate the various ways air, water, land, and living things change over time.

-Essay Contest: If you are a 6-9 grade student you are invited to submit a brief essay; discussing the processes used to study environmental changes overtime, explain how the Earth’s systems interact and change our world, and how humans are affected by geologic transformation.

Keep American Beautiful - Recycle bowl

This competition for preK-12 schools in the U.S. provides an opportunity for students to learn the importance of recycling with healthy competition. The four-week competition gives national and state cash prizes based on the schools pound-per-capita of recycled materials collected during the October 17th – November 12th time frame.

Youth Gardens Grant

The National Gardening Association announces the Youth Garden Grants (YGG). In its 29-year history, the YGG program has helped more than 1.3 million youngsters by supporting youth gardening programs. Thanks to the generosity of The Home Depot Garden Club, 5 winners will receive gift cards valued at $1,000, and 95 winners will receive $500 gift cards, for the purchase of gardening materials and supplies specific to the needs of their program from their local Home Depot store.
